Frequently Asked

Common questions about the teas, the sessions, and how to get in touch.

About the Teas

What kind of tea do you sell?

Single-origin Chinese tea — mostly Wuyi rock oolongs from Fujian (Tie Luo Han, Da Hong Pao, Lao Cong Shui Xian) and Yunnan whites (an aged white-tea cake and a Yue Guang Mei Ren tin). The range is deliberately small. See Our Teas for what's on the shelf right now.

Do you brew tea at the shop, or just sell it?

Both. The Balmain room is set up for sitting down with a gaiwan and brewing through many short infusions. Tastings and workshops run by appointment; tea is also available to take home.

Where does the tea come from?

From working producers in Wuyi Mountain, Fujian (Wuyi Star) and Yunnan (Mengku Rongshi for the aged white cake, Fengqing Fengning for the moonlight white). Each tea page lists the producer, garden region, and weight.

Do you sell loose tea by the gram?

Most teas come in their producer-sealed packaging — a 100g tin or a presentation box of sachets — but for in-person tastings we'll open whatever you'd like to try. Enquire if you want a smaller portion of something.

Sessions & Visiting

Still have questions? Get in touch.

How do I book a tasting or workshop?

Use the contact form to tell us what you're interested in — a particular tea, a one-off tasting, or a small group workshop. We'll come back with available times.

Can I just drop in?

Sessions and workshops are by appointment — please get in touch first. The address is 334 Darling Street, Balmain NSW 2041.

Do you ship tea?

Mail-order isn't set up online yet, but we can arrange a parcel within Australia for existing customers. Send an enquiry with the tea and quantity.

Do you do private events?

Yes — small private workshops and tasting events for groups can be arranged at the Balmain table or, for larger groups, at your venue. Contact us with what you have in mind.

Getting in Touch

How can I contact you?

How quickly do you respond to enquiries?

Usually within a day or two. If you've sent something and not heard back after that, please try again — the message may have gone astray.
